Ana María Martínez, praised for her “expressive, haunted account” of Paolina in Poliuto, sings in the final performance of Donizetti’s tragedy at Glyndebourne on July 15 (WhatsOnStage). With her “Callas-like intensity,” Ana María shines in the seldom-performed bel canto masterpiece (Daily Mail).

The Grammy-winning soprano has been seen and heard in East Sussex since May 21 as part of the UK premiere of Poliuto, directed by Mariame Clément and costarring Michael Fabiano in the title role, following her most recent appearance with the festival in 2009 as the title role in Dvorak’s Rusalka.

For a unique opportunity to see Glyndebourne’s production of Poliuto, visit the Telegraph’s website to stream Donizetti’s full opera, available for one week beginning August 16.

Currently starring in Donizetti’s Poliuto, Ana María Martínez is no stranger to the main stage of the Glyndebourne Festival, having performed the title role in Dvorak’s Rusalka in 2009. The Independent praised Ana María’s powerful performance: “she sings from such a deep core of longing, intensified by the courage of her conviction in the big releases and softened by the benevolence of melting portamento in the many moments of fragility.”

Ana María can be heard singing Rusalka in a recording released by Glyndebourne in 2010 with Jiri Belohlavek conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra. A full recording of Rusalka with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Glyndebourne Chorus is available on Spotify, iTunes, and ArkivMusic.
